Autumn 1

Tag Rugby and Lacrosse

At the beginning of the term the children will understand how:

  • to take a pulse and comment why we take a pulse.

  • to be able to maintain the correct technique during all stations in the circuit training session.

When playing Tag Rugby, they will be able to:

  • pass and catch the ball consistently.

  • To be able to dodge a defender when running towards the try line.

  • To transfer everything they have learnt during the lessons into an actual game.

When playing Lacrosse, they will be able to:7

  • demonstrate correct handling of the lacrosse stick and show how to throw, pass and catch accurately when stationary and whilst moving.

  • To be able to transfer everything they have learnt during the lessons into an actual game.

Autumn 2

Year 5/6 - Gymnastics

  • To be able to perform basic balances with control.

  • To be able to perform counter balances and counter tension with control.

  • To be able to travel ‘towards’ and travel ‘away from’ a jump, balance and a roll.

  • To be able to perform a sequence with a partner to include a variety of jumps, balances and rolls.

  • To be able to perform basic partner and larger group balances with control.

  • To be able to perform a sequence of action on a variety of high and low apparatus.

  • To be able to recall all rolls, travel movements and balances taught.

Spring 1

Year 6 – Net and Wall

At the beginning of the term the children will understand how to:

  • take a pulse and comment why we take a pulse.

  • They will be shown the different ways to take a pulse using their carotid and radial pulse.

  • They will be able to maintain the correct technique during all stations in the circuit training session.

  • To re-cap the game of Volleyball.

  • To play a Volleyball related game in a group.

  • To be able to demonstrate the Dig shot.

  • To play a Volleyball related game in a group.

  • To reinforce the Dig and Volley

  • To be able to do the spike and serve in volleyball.

  • To introduce rotation into the game of volleyball.

  • To be able to change direction of the ball in tennis.

  • To be able to push ball using f/h and b/h.

  • To be able to play a forehand shot.

  • To be able to understand what shots can be used in attacking play in order to win a game.

Spring 2

Coaches choice of Invasion Game

This part of the term will be the choice of the coach/teacher.

Looking back through assessment the coach/teacher will choose the sports they think the children need to develop even more to prepare them for High School.

Summer

Summer 1

Year 6 – Athletics / Orienteering

  • To run 3 chosen distances using the correct running technique in a competitive situation.

  • To show their sprint start and how to measure it out and then adapt their running including the sprint start.

  • To be able to throw a javelin using the correct technique aiming for further distances.

  • To be able to throw a javelin with a run up.

  • To show their knowledge of basic Jumping actions and develop this using the take-off and landing.

  • To be able to apply correct grip when throwing a shot putt.

  • To improve knowledge of hop, skip and jump action in the triple jump.

  • To re-cap on sprint technique and sprint start technique.

  • To be able to demonstrate one or both baton changes and link this to the relay.

  • To be given the opportunity to measure each other’s distances and peer assess each other’s techniques. The children will also be given the chance to work in groups to compete against each other.

  • To be able to build on knowledge of map reading and to work individually and in a team to develop skills and solve problems.
