Unit Overview

This project will focus on the social and geographical changes in Middleton over the course of the Industrial Revolution. The children will discover what life was like for the population of Middleton in the 1800s, particulary children. The children will be given the opportunity to analyse primary resource and understand what they can tell us about the Industrial Revolution.Β

Unit Sequence: Learning Intentions

1. Β  What was the Industrial Revolution? – Using secondary sources, the children will compare life before the Industrial Revolution (1750) to after the Industrial Revolution. The children will know some of the causes and effects of the Industrial Revolution.

2. Β  How did Middleton change during the Industrial Revolution? Middleton Library Visit – The children will analyse a variety of primary sources to understand how Middleton changed during the Industrial Revolution.

3. Β  What was life like for children during the Industrial Revolution in Middleton? The children will analyse primary sources, including images, cartoons and newspaper recordings, to deduct what life was like for children during the Industrial Revolution. The children will present their work as a freeze frame.
