Autumn 1

Fundamental Movement

  • Balance on one foot.

  • Balance on a bench/beam.

  • Child can jump.

  • Perform an overarm and underarm throw with distance.

  • Catch a large ball

Autumn 2

Gymnastics

  • Create and perform a movement sequence with a beginning, middle and end.

  • Travel in a different way across a mat.

  • Hold a shape still - Tuck, Star, Straddle, Pike and Straight.

  • Perform a log roll, Teddy bear roll and egg roll.

  • Perform a tuck jump, half turn and straight jump.

Attacking and Defending

  • Begin to use the terms attacking and defending.

  • Use simple attacking skills such as dodging to get past a defender.

  • Use simple defensive skills such as marking a player or defending a space.

  • Engage in competitive activities and team games.

Spring 1

Dance

  • Describe how the body feels before, during and after exercise.

  • Copy and repeat actions.

  • Put a sequence together to create a motif.

  • Improvise independently to create a simple dance.

  • Bounce and catch a ball.

  • Strike an object with a tennis racket.

  • Kick a ball.

Summer 1

Hit, Catch and Run

  • Describe how the body feels before, during and after exercise.

  • Use hitting skills in a game.

  • Practice basic striking, sending and receiving.

  • Throw underarm and overarm.

  • Catch and bounce a ball.

Run, Jump and Throw

  • Describe how the body feels before, during and after exercise.

  • Vary their pace and speed when running.

  • Run with a basic technique over different distances.

  • Sprint in a straight line.

  • Perform different types of jumps - 2 feet to 2, 2 feet to 1.

  • Throw/push an object into the air.

Summer 2

Fundamental Movement

  • Bounce and catch a ball with height and varying shapes.

  • Strike an object with a tennis racket and rounder bat.

  • Kick a ball in a straight line to a partner.

  • Pass a ball to a partner.

Invasion Games

  • Follow simple rules to play games including team games.

  • Perform using a range of actions and body parts with some coordination.

  • Begin to perform learnt skills with some control.

  • Engage in competitive activities and team games.
