Year 2 Physical Education

Autumn 1

Fundamental Movement

  • Balance steadily on one foot.

  • Balance confidently on a bench/beam.

  • Jump for distance.

  • Perform and overarm and underarm throw with distance.

  • Catch a small ball.

Attacking and Defending

  • Understand the term Attacking and Defending

  • Begin to use at least one technique to attack or defend to play a game successfully

  • Compete against self and others

  • Move into spaces when prompted to move away from a defender.

  • Can sometimes intercept a ball when passed between attackers.

  • Occasionally makes eye-contact before passing a ball to a teammate.

Autumn 2

Gymnastics

  • Perform a controlled log roll, egg roll and teddy bear roll.

  • Perform a crouched forward roll.

  • Perform a controlled tuck jump and straight jump off a springboard.

  • Balance on a variety of apparatus.

  • Watch and comment positively on a performance.

Spring 1

Dance

  • Explain why they need to stay healthy.

  • Copy, remember and repeat actions.

  • Change the speed and level of their actions.

  • Mirror a dance taught.

  • Move in time to music.

  • Perform learnt skills with increasing control.

  • Strike an object with a bat.

  • Kick and dribble ball with both feet with confidence.

  • Pass a ball accurately to a partner.

Spring 2

  • Show an understanding of the skills for playing striking and fielding games.

  • Understand how to position their body when striking a ball.

Run, Jump and Throw

  • Explain why they need to stay healthy.

  • Run at different paces, describing the different paces .

  • Travel at different speeds.

  • Maintain control as they change direction when jogging or sprinting.

  • Combine different jumps together with some fluency and control.

  • Throw different types of equipment in different ways for accuracy and distance.

  • Compete against self and others.

Summer 2

Invasion Games

  • Kick and bounce a ball whilst moving

  • Use kicking skills in a game situation

  • Use different dribbling skills in a game situation

  • Know how to pass the ball in different ways

Fundamental Movement

  • Strike an object with a bat picking out places free to hit into.

  • Kick and dribble ball with both feet with confidence.

  • Pass a ball accurately to a partner in a game situation.
