Autumn Term
Power prints- Drawing
In this topic pupils will use mechanical engravings as a starting point, pupils develop an awareness of proportion, composition and pattern in drawing and combine media for effect when developing a drawing into a print.
3D pencil drawings. To draw using tone to create a 3D effect.*
Sense of proportion. To explore proportion and tone when drawing.
Drawing with scissors. To plan a composition for a mixed-media drawing.
Wax resist. To use shading techniques to create pattern and contrast.

Mega materials- Sculpture & 3D
In this topic pupils will explore the way different materials can be shaped and joined, learning about techniques used by artists as diverse as Barbara Hepworth and Sokari Douglas-Camp and creating their own sculptures.
From 2D to 3D. To develop ideas for 3D work through drawing and visualisation in 2D.
Soap sculptures. To use more complex techniques to shape materials.
Working with wire. To explore how shapes can be formed and joined in wire.
Shadow sculpture. To consider the effect of how sculpture is displayed.*
Recycle and recreate. To choose and join a variety of materials to make sculpture.

Ancient Egyptian Scrolls- Craft & Design
This unit focuses on exploring and creating Ancient Egyptian art, guiding pupils in understanding and applying the styles, patterns, and techniques of Ancient Egyptian art through lessons that include designing scrolls, making paper, and creating contemporary responses using zines.
Exploring Ancient Egyptian art. To investigate the style, pattern and characteristics of Ancient Egyptian art.
Designing scrolls. To apply design skills inspired by the style of an ancient civilisation.
Making paper. To apply understanding of ancient techniques to construct a new material.
Scroll making. To apply drawing and painting skills in the style of an ancient civilisation.
Making zines. To apply an understanding of Egyptian art to develop a contemporary response.

Light & Dark- Painting & mixed media
In this topic pupils will develop skills in colour mixing, focussing on using tints and shades to create a 3D effect. Experimenting with composition and applying painting techniques to a personal still life piece.
Tints and shades. To understand how to darken or lighten a colour when mixing paint.
Three dimensions. To use tints and shades to give a three-dimensional effect when painting.
Painting techniques. To explore how paint can create very different effects.
Composition. To consider proportion and composition when planning a still-life painting.
Still life. To apply knowledge of colour mixing and painting techniques to create a finished piece.
