This project teaches....
children to look at local issues and how they can affect us directly. We will be researching when and where local floods occur. Aerial maps will be explored and acetate overlays will be added indicating the flooded areas. In order to explore how flooding affects the local community a questionnaire will be devised by the class and sent to parents. If the flooding is shown to be a problem, the children will then write a letter to the local council stating problems.
❇ MEMORABLE MOMENT
Involving the local community through questionnaires and letters.
️✏️ WRITING OPPORTUNITIES
Questionnaires and letters.
🌳 LEARNING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Are floods a problem in Middleton? Research when and where floods happen in our local area - interviewing locals, newspaper archives, flood maps.
Where do floods happen in Middleton? Using research results from previous lesson create an acetate flood map that can be overlaid on an aerial photograph/google maps. Analyse what this indicates. Create a questionnaire to be sent out to members of the local community, e.g. parents. Are floods a problem to local people?
What have we found out? Do we need to help make a difference? Gather questionnaire answers together and see if there are common answers. Using this, write a class letter to the council to demonstrate your findings.
🏁 SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW
