Making Relationships

Autumn Term Activities:

Meeting new friends and staff around school and learning their names through games.

Matching objects to the people who work in school, e.g. mops to Mr Henson the caretaker.

Exploring people who help us in the community, e.g. doctors, police.

Exploring friendships-people's kind choices, making a friendship tree.

Looking at similarities and differences between friends.

  • E. L. Goal Making relationships Children play cooperatively, taking turns with others. They take account of one another’s ideas, about how to organise their activity. They show sensitivity to others’ needs and feelings, and form positive relationships with adults and other children.
  • 30-50 months Reception Demonstrates friendly behaviour, initiating conversations and forming good relationships with peers and familiar adults.

Introduce stickers for rewards-being proud of themselves.

They are confident to speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources they need for their chosen activities. They say when they do or don’t need help.
  • 30-50 months Reception Enjoys responsibility of carrying out small tasks.
  • 40-60+ months Reception Can describe self in positive terms and talk about abilities.
  • ELG skills Reception Choose the resources they need for their chosen activities.
  • Exceeding ELG Reception Talk about the things they enjoy, and are good at, and about the things they do not find easy.

Spring Term

  • We will encourage the children into new situations, e.g. assembly, holding chicks etc.
  • We will be encouraging perseverance-don't give up at the first hurdle.

Summer Term

  • 30-50 months Reception Shows confidence in asking adults for help.
  • 40-60+ months Reception Confident to speak to others about own needs, wants, interests and opinions.

Managing Feelings and Behaviour

Autumn Term Activities:

Introducing 'We behave like Parkfielders' board.

Creating our class charter with expectations of behaviour.

Friendships-choices we make being a good friend.

Goal Managing feelings and behaviour 47 Children talk about how they and others show feelings, talk about their own and others’ behaviour, and its consequences, and know that some behaviour is unacceptable. They work as part of a group or class, and understand and follow the rules. They adjust their behaviour to different situations, and take changes of routine in their stride.
  • 30-50 months Reception Aware of own feelings, and knows that some actions and words can hurt others’ feelings.
  • 40-60+ months Reception Understands that own actions affect other people.
  • ELG skills Reception Talk about others’ behaviour and its consequences.
  • Exceeding ELG Reception Know some ways to manage their feelings and are beginning to use these to maintain control.
