Reception Autumn

Autumn 1

Body Management

At the beginning of the term the children will be able to:

  • take part in a fitness circuit confidently.

  • They will also work on their static and dynamic balancing, hand/eye coordination and agility. When working on these they will also show good body control during large and small scale movements.

Autumn 2

  • To be able to participate and enjoy a variety of different types of travelling activities.

  • To learn how to perform a log roll and an egg roll, individually and together.

  • To learn how to incorporate a shape into the roll.

  • To be able to perform two basic balances on a small and a large body part.

  • To learn how travel using a variety of stepping actions and also like a sea creature.

  • To be able to put all shapes, rolls and travel movements into a sequence.

Reception Spring

Spring 1

Physical Literacy 2

At the beginning of the term the children will be able to take part in a fitness circuit confidently.

  • To be able to move around using different levels.

  • To be able to show different body movements.

  • To understand how to throw the ball/Beanbag accurately.

  • To be able to show balance and agility when taking part in activities.

  • To be able to keep the ball next to feet when moving around.

  • To be able to change direction whilst keeping the ball under control.

  • To combine a number of co-ordination drills using upper and lower body movements.

  • To be able to show a mix of agility, balance and co-ordination in a circuit.



Spring 2

Physical Literacy 2

  • To aim accurately using a variety of balls and equipment. To time their running so as to stop/intercept the path of a ball.

  • To be able to travel in different ways showing a clear transition between moments.

  • To be able to travel in different directions (side to side, up and down) with control and fluency.

  • To be able to combine a number of co-ordination drills using upper and lower body movements.

  • To be able to learn how to dodge out of the way.

  • To be able to throw the ball at a target.

  • To be able to throw a ball to a partner correctly and with accurately.

  • To be able to move around with the ball using your hands keeping it under control.




Reception Summer

Summer 1

Physical Literacy 2

  • To be able to master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities.

  • To understand how to participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending when playing bench ball.

  • To be able to develop balance, agility and co-ordination when playing volleyball.

  • To be able to use space to move safely around others.

  • To be able to use a racket safely to send and receive a ball when playing tennis.

  • To be able to develop balance, agility and co-ordination when playing hockey.

  • To be able to perform basic actions using different body parts.

  • To be able to hit a target with a ball.
