In the previous materials block, children learnt that plastic is a human-made material and some plastics can be recycled. In this small unit, the children look at how plastic is both helpful and harmful. Children learn that the overuse of single-use plastic has had negative impacts on humans and other animals all over the world. Children will develop an understanding of the basic positive and negative impacts of plastic and should be able to suggest simple ways they can reduce their plastic waste in school. Throughout this sustainability block, there are opportunities for children to work scientifically and practically to think of ways of reducing plastic waste.
