Reception

Autumn Term

  • The passing of time and changes that occur over time-growing up, things they could not do as a baby and can now do, will be able to do in the future.

  • Understanding of historical events and how they are remembered in various ways-Bonfire night, Remembrance Day.

  • Location of resources within the classroom and within the school.

Spring Term

  • Differences between day and night and what happens in these times.

  • Inventions-thinking about what uses electricity today and what people did before electricity was discovered.

  • Fairy tale stories-old stories that have stood the test of time.

Summer Term

  • Comparison of environments - Urban and country (visit to a farm)

  • Seasons-changes that have occurred from Winter, through Spring and then Summer-trees, flowers, clothes we wear, activities we do.

  • Local history focus-Our school's past.

Year 1

Autumn Term

  • Explore the physical and human characteristics of the United Kingdom.

Spring Term

  • Look closely at fossils and studying reptiles to understand how dinosaurs may have lived and eventually died out.

Summer Term

  • Learn about our own school and its locality, both today and in the past. And compare schooling in the Victorian era to their experiences today.

Year 2

Autumn Term

  • Explore the physical and human features of coastal regions across the United Kingdom.

Spring Term

  • Explore and research historically significant people who have had a major impact on the world.

Summer Term

  • Learn about the English and British monarchy from AD 871 to the present day.

Year 3

Autumn Term

  • Explore our home town and discovering how it's changed over time. Also, how we can improve our urban environment.

Spring Term

  • Imagine our local area during prehistoric times by learning about the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.

  • Learn about the layers of the earth, rocks, soils and fossils.

Summer Term

  • Explore the fabulous Ancient Greeks.

Year 4

Autumn Term

  • Learn about the everyday lives of the Saxons and the Vikings.

Spring Term

  • learn about the characteristics and physical processes of rivers.

Summer Term

  • Learn about the battles between the Romans and Celts. Who was triumphant?


Year 5

  • Travel back in time to meet the terrifying Tudors.

Summer Term

Year 6

  • Explore the Inuit way of life.

Summer Term

  • Learn about Africa past and present and the development of the slave trade.

  • Explore Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, the causes and consequences of the European colonisation of Africa and the worldwide communities that make up the African diaspora.
